Islam has a unique perspective on the concept of evolution. The Quran mentions the creation of man and the universe, but it does not provide a detailed account of the process of creation. However, as Muslims, we believe in the harmony of science and religion, and the idea that the two can coexist and complement each other. In this blog post, we will explore how Islam views evolution and how we can explain this concept to children in a way that is logical and compatible with Islam. Firstly, it is important to understand that the concept of evolution, as it is commonly understood, refers to the gradual development of species over time. While this idea may appear to conflict with the Quranic account of creation, the two can coexist when we understand that evolution can be seen as the means by which Allah has created life on earth. In other words, evolution can be seen as a process of intelligent design, rather than a purely naturalistic process. One way in which we can reconcile the concept of evolution with Islamic belief is to consider the idea of "guidance" in the process of creation. The Quran tells us that Allah is the Creator of all things, and that He has complete control over the universe. He created man from a single cell, and every aspect of our bodies and minds has been designed and created by Him. It is possible, then, to view the process of evolution as a means of guidance, in which Allah guides the development of life on earth in accordance with His divine plan. It is also worth noting that the Quran contains many references to the natural world, which can be interpreted as supporting the idea of evolution. For example, the Quran describes the process of embryonic development in detail, and it is clear that the stages of development described in the Quran are similar to those described by modern science. This suggests that Allah has provided us with knowledge and understanding of the natural world through the Quran, which can be used to support our understanding of the concept of evolution. When it comes to explaining the concept of evolution to children, it is important to start with the basics. Children need to understand that the universe was created by Allah, and that He has complete control over everything that happens in the universe. They also need to understand that Allah created life on earth, and that every living thing has a purpose and a role to play in His plan. One way to explain the concept of evolution to children is to use the example of a tree. Start by asking the child what a tree is, and what it is used for. Explain that a tree is a living thing, and that it grows and changes over time. You can then explain that just as a tree grows and changes, so too do animals and other living things. Use simple examples, such as the way in which a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, or the way in which a baby bird grows into an adult bird. It is also important to emphasize the idea of guidance in the process of evolution. Children should understand that while living things change and adapt over time, this is all part of Allah's plan. They should also understand that Allah has given us the ability to study and learn about the natural world, and that through our understanding of science, we can better understand and appreciate the world around us. Finally, it is worth noting that the Quran contains many scientific facts that support the idea of evolution. For example, the Quran describes the creation of the universe as a process of expansion, which is consistent with the Big Bang theory. The Quran also describes the stages of embryonic development in detail, which is consistent with modern scientific understanding. By highlighting these scientific facts, we can help children to see the harmony between Islam and science, and to appreciate the wonder and beauty of the natural world. Also it is important to show that when it comes to humans, they were created from Adam, and that he was created by Allah, in Surah Al-Hijr, 15:28-29:

"And [mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay. So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

This verse highlights the process of Adam's creation, emphasizing that Allah created him from clay and breathed into him of His soul. It also mentions that the angels were instructed to bow down to Adam, indicating his status and importance, and that he is different from all the creatures on earth, the clay was brought from earth and since Adam was destined to live on earth, he had to have the same genetics as the other life forms on earth, that would be the only way for him and his children to get nourishment.

In conclusion, Islam views evolution as a natural process created and guided by Allah. The Quran and Hadiths provide ample evidence of the intricacy and balance of the natural world, with verses that describe the creation of life and the interconnectedness of all things. While there are still debates among scholars and scientists about the mechanisms of evolution, it is important to remember that the study of science and the understanding of religion are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the two can complement and enrich one another, leading to a greater appreciation and understanding of the world around us. When explaining evolution to children, it is important to emphasize the beauty and complexity of creation, as well as the concept of Allah's wisdom and guidance in all things. Additionally, using relatable examples and simplified language can help children understand the basic concepts of evolution without getting bogged down in technical jargon or complex scientific theories. Overall, Islam offers a unique perspective on the natural world and the process of evolution. By approaching this topic with an open mind and a willingness to learn, we can deepen our understanding of both science and religion, and gain a greater appreciation for the majesty and complexity of Allah's creation.
