Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri reported that the Prophet (pbuh) used to go out on the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha to the Musalla (prayer place) and the first thing he would do is to offer the prayer. (Bukhari)

Performing Eid prayer is one of the most important Sunnahs of Eid al-Fitr. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to perform the Eid prayer in an open field, and he would lead the prayer. This is an important aspect of the celebration, as it brings Muslims together in a communal prayer that marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal. The gathering of Muslims in an open field for prayer is also a symbol of unity, as people from all walks of life come together to celebrate and offer thanks to Allah.

The Hadith mentioned above highlights the importance of performing the Eid prayer as the first thing on the day of Eid al-Fitr. This is because the Eid prayer is a way of expressing gratitude to Allah for allowing Muslims to complete the month of fasting, and it is a means of seeking forgiveness for any shortcomings during the month. By performing the Eid prayer in an open field, Muslims also have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Allah's creation and to connect with nature.

Taking a bath and wearing new clothes

Eating before the Eid prayer

Anas Ibn Malik reported that the Prophet (pbuh) would not go out on the morning of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates, and he would eat an odd number of dates. (Bukhari)

Eating an odd number of dates before the Eid prayer is another Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This Hadith emphasizes the importance of taking care of one's physical needs before performing religious duties, as well as the significance of observing this tradition on the day of Eid al-Fitr.

Eating an odd number of dates also symbolizes the Prophet's (pbuh) love for moderation and balance in all aspects of life, including the consumption of food.

Moreover, this Sunnah also serves as a reminder that while spiritual practices are important, taking care of one's physical needs is equally important, and that the two should not be separated. By nourishing their bodies before the Eid prayer, Muslims can also focus on worship with a clear mind and a content stomach, which is essential for maintaining spiritual connection with Allah.

Going to the prayer place by foot

By prioritizing their physical health and well-being, Muslims can also maintain a strong connection with Allah and lead fulfilling and productive lives.

Saying Takbir

Abdullah Ibn Umar reported that the Prophet (pbuh) used to say Takbir during the days of Tashriq (the three days following Eid al-Adha) after the prayers, starting from after Fajr until the time of Asr. (Muslim)

Saying Takbir is another important Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) during Eid al-Fitr. This Hadith emphasizes the significance of Takbir and its role in the celebration of Eid.

Takbir is an Arabic phrase that translates to "Allahu Akbar," meaning "Allah is the greatest." It is recited during various Islamic rituals, including Eid prayers. By saying Takbir on the way to the prayer place and during the prayer, Muslims can express their gratitude and appreciation for the blessings of Allah and celebrate the occasion of Eid with full enthusiasm.

Moreover, the tradition of saying Takbir after the Eid prayers during the days of Tashriq (the three days following Eid al-Adha) highlights the importance of celebrating and enjoying the blessings of Allah not only on the day of Eid, but also during the following days. Visiting one's relatives is considered one of the best deeds in Islam, as highlighted in the Hadith mentioned above. This Sunnah is especially important during Eid al-Fitr, as it is a time for families to come together and celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan. Visiting one's relatives during this time not only strengthens family bonds but also provides an opportunity to exchange greetings and gifts, share meals, and enjoy each other's company.
